Jesus Satisfies Our Thirst

Jesus said, in the gospel reading, to the Samaritan woman that he is the one who has the living water, and whoever drinks it will never thirst again. The Samaritan woman wanted the living water so badly so that she would never thirst again or have to keep coming to the well of Jacob to draw water again and again. The woman did not understand that receiving Jesus into our lives means that our lives will never be arid again, because just like through Moses, God gave his people water in the desert, as recorded in the first reading, so that the people of Israel did not die of thirst in the desert, so also Jesus in us will keep our hearts fresh and alive for God to dwell in. To have Jesus, the living water, living in us means that our hope of being alive always is assured, and like the second reading says: “Hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us”.
