2025 : Year of Hope
The year 2025 has been designated as the Year of Hope, a time for us to focus on our shared beliefs
and the power that comes from our connection with God. In the midst of the numerous problems
that continue to touch us as individuals and as a nation, this is a call for renewed faith in God,
perseverance in our purpose, and the hope that comes from Christ’s birth. As we begin this
wonderful year, we are reminded that hope is a proactive reaction to the challenges we encounter.
Hope is founded on faith, and our faith in God’s promises gives us the power to endure. The saint
reminds us in Romans 5:3-5: “We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces
endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does
not disappoint us.” These words inspire us to recognise that our problems are not the conclusion
of the tale; rather, they serve as a background for deepening our faith and strengthening our hope.

The Year of Hope 2025 encourages us to accept the idea that, no matter how difficult life is, we
are never alone. Christ, who was born into this world, is still with us today. He is our continuous
friend, providing strength to help us face the challenges ahead. As a Church, we are called to renew
our devotion to Him, His teachings, and one another as we work towards a hopeful future. This is
an opportunity for every one of us to reflect on our own life. What parts of your life require
renewed faith? Where do you need Christ’s strength to help you conquer your challenges? This
year, let us pledge to spend more time with the Lord, trusting in His guidance and grace. Let us
likewise be a source of support for one another, bearing one other’s difficulties as we walk in faith.
In this Year of Hope, we are encouraged to renew our faith in the goodness of God’s purpose for
us, to seek His help in difficult times, and to grow in resilience and persistence, knowing that He
who began a good work in us will see it through (Philippians 1:6). May 2025 be a year of faith
growth, renewed vigour, and the emergence of a stronger, more united church.
Living Out Hope in Our Parish.
Hope is more than just a feeling; it is reflected in our daily activities. In the Year of Hope 2025,
we are challenged to make our faith and hope evident to the world, particularly in our parish. It is
not enough to simply discuss hope; we must actively live it by demonstrating Christ’s love and
service to others. Reaching out to those in need is one of the most practical ways we can put our
hope into action. Our neighbours, families, and fellow citizens are frequently faced with suffering.
We are asked to be instruments of hope, whether by sacrificing time, resources, or praying. Saint
James says that faith without works is dead (James 2:26). Our actions must reflect our faith,
showing the world Christ’s love in real ways.
In our parish, we can start by addressing the most pressing needs around us, whether it’s helping
those in need, visiting the sick, or advocating for peace and justice. In Nigeria, where there is so
much suffering, we are called to be a beacon of hope and a voice for the voiceless. We can help in
real ways, including feeding the hungry, providing refuge for people without homes, and giving
hope to those who feel neglected. Another crucial approach to embodying hope is to promote peace
and reconciliation in our parish community. Nigeria, like many other countries, is divided not only
by regions but also by family, ethnic group, and community. As Christians, we are expected to be
peacemakers, offering reconciliation where there is conflict and healing where there is pain. Christ,
who was born to create peace, has called us to be peacemakers in our families, workplaces, and
nations.
Finally, we can embody hope by praying for one another, particularly for our nation. Prayer is an
effective tool, and in times of adversity, we must turn to God for guidance and strength. The prayers
of the devout are like incense before God, ascending as a fragrant tribute. As we continue through
the year, let us pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and healing, as well as the strength to be faithful
witnesses to Christ’s love. Living forth hope requires intentionality. It means choosing to be
Christ’s hands and feet, actively bringing His hope to those in most need. As we live out our faith,
we become symbols of the hope that awaits us: Christ’s ultimate victory over all pain and death.
A Blessing and Prayer for Nigeria.
Heavenly Father, we place Nigeria in Your hands, praying for healing, peace, and prosperity. May
Your love restore harmony in our land, and may Your wisdom guide our leaders and people. We
pray for Your protection over every home, family, and neighbourhood. We make our prayers
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
